We really like taro. It’s one of those things that we’d never tried/ seen/ known existed until we came to China. We’ve ordered it several times at local restaurants, and I’ve been wanting to try it at home. I tried making taro fries the other day and we were really pleased. They’re still not as good as regular French fries, but we enjoyed them for a change and will definitely make them again!
Ingredients:
1 large taro root
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon chili oil
salt and pepper
Directions and Notes:
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Cut the taro into thin strips shaped like french fries.
3. Combine the oils and pour over the taro pieces; toss to coat. (Depending on the size of your taro root, you can add a little more or a little less oil.)
4. Add salt and pepper.
5. Bake the fries for 10 minutes, turn the tray, and bake another 10-20 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned. Serve with ketchup or other sauce.
These fries look absolutely intriguing! I’ve never heard of taro – what does it taste like?! After seeing this post I’d love to try them! If you have a minute, I’d love your thoughts on my eggplant fries :) https://goodfoodmarsh.wordpress.com/2014/08/27/spicy-aubergine-fries/
