This is an easy activity that can take up long periods of time in the classroom. All you need is a deck of playing cards and the free printable worksheet from this post. Each student receives a worksheet, which serves as a key during the activity.
Students should sit in partner pairs or small groups. Each group receives one playing card and then discusses the corresponding question from their paper for a given period of time, usually 1-2 minutes. Then the teacher or timekeeper calls time and the cards rotate to the next group. This activity is great because once students know what to do, the activity runs itself and the teacher is free to circulate, engage, and help with mistake corrections.
The questions on this worksheet are really basic for beginners. Click here to download the PDF: Conversation Cards
