Homemade Croutons

Standard

Ingredients:

1 loaf of french bread or one large loaf of bread cut into about 1-inch cubes, about 6 heaping cups, preferably stale

3 Tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

up to 1 1/2 Tablespoons Italian seasoning

3/4 teaspoon salt

Directions & Notes:

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and place in a large bowl, or directly on a 9×13 inch cookie tray/ baking dish.

2. Drizzle the oil over the bread cubes and use hands to toss lightly.

3. In a separate bowl, mix the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Sprinkle over the oiled bread cubes and toss to coat bread cubes fairly evenly. Transfer from bowl to baking sheet if they are not there already.

4. Bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 minutes, then stir with a spatula and bake another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

These are fabulous for salads, soups, and just eating straight out of the oven. The recipe is really forgiving and always seems to turn out well, even when not measured exactly.
